The U.S. Department of Defense (the Pentagon) announced on Saturday that two American soldiers and a U.S. civilian interpreter were killed, and three others wounded, in an attack in Palmyra, central Syria. The assault also left two members of Syria’s security forces dead.
Syria’s Interior Ministry said a member of the Islamic State group opened fire during a tour in the Palmyra desert conducted by the leadership of the international coalition and Syria’s internal security command.
The attacker was killed following a shootout with Syrian security forces and coalition troops.
