Travel Giant Thomas Cook Declares Bankruptcy

British travel group Thomas Cook announced bankruptcy after failing to attain a last-ditch saving deal. The 178-year-old operator had been attempting to acquire “$250 million, 227 million euros” from private investors to save it from collapse.
“It is a matter of profound regret to me and the rest of the board that we were not successful. I would like to apologize to our millions of customers, and thousands of employees, suppliers and partners who have supported us for many years”, Thomas Cook CEO Peter Fankhauser said in a statement on Monday. “This marks a deeply sad day for the company which pioneered package holidays and made travel possible for millions of people around the world,” he added.
On their part, the British Civil Aviation Authority said that all bookings on with Thomas Cook, including flights and vacations, have now been dropped.

Moreover, The British embassy in Tunisia has issued an announcement on Facebook stating that the UK Civil Aviation Authority has launched a full programme to support Thomas Cook customers from Greece, Spain Turkey and Tunisia.
