U.S. President Donald Trump said that Hamas “will give up its weapons, willingly or by force,” announcing the creation of a Gaza Peace Council and reaffirming his support for a technocratic government to administer the territory.
In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump outlined what he described as his plan for Gaza, launched last October, which he said led to a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel.
The American president stated that “with the support of Egypt, Turkey and Qatar, a comprehensive agreement will be secured to disarm Hamas and destroy the tunnels,” adding: “As I have said before, Hamas can do it the easy way or the hard way.”
Trump also called on the Palestinian movement to immediately fulfill its commitments, including, according to his words, “the return of the last body to Israel and moving forward with disarmament.”
At the same time, he announced the establishment of a “Gaza Peace Council,” saying that its members would be revealed soon. In his Truth Social post, Trump described the body as “the greatest council ever formed” and reiterated his backing for a technocratic government as part of a broader political settlement for the Gaza Strip.
