Trump signs executive order targeting social media companies

United States President Donald Trump signed on Thursday an executive order on social media companies to allow holding them accountable for content posted by their users, alleging he will seek legislation in addition to the order. He affirmed that tech giants have “unchecked power,” adding those companies are “tantamount to a monopoly” and the order aims to take “liability shield” away from them.

As it was reported earlier today, Trump aims to “remove or change” Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act that used to guard tech companies such as Twitter and Facebook from lawsuits over posts published on their platforms.
