Tunis Municipality Considering a Revision of Wedding Fees at the Belvédère Swimming Pool

The Municipality of Tunis announced on Thursday, June 5, 2025, that it is currently reviewing the fees charged for hosting wedding ceremonies at the municipal swimming pool in Belvédère.

This was stated by Khaled Ben Yedder, Director of Culture, Childhood, Youth, Sports, and Social Affairs, during an interview on National Radio.

The announcement follows a controversy sparked by contradictory statements from the same official.

The previous day, Ben Yedder had mistakenly claimed that the rental price for the Qobbet Ennhas venue reached 4,000 dinars per hour, as opposed to a lower municipal rate for the Belvédère swimming pool.

He later publicly acknowledged the error, clarifying that the actual fee for a 90-minute rental at Qobbet Ennhas is 1,400 dinars, not 4,000.

He also emphasized that comparing a private venue to a public facility is not appropriate.

Qobbet Ennhas is a private-sector venue, whereas the Belvédère pool is a municipal infrastructure managed directly by the Tunis City Council.

As for the current rates charged by the municipality for wedding ceremonies at the Belvédère pool, the hourly fee stands at 2,500 dinars between May and October—the peak wedding season—and 1,500 dinars for the rest of the year.

Responding to concerns raised about the high costs, particularly for a public venue, Khaled Ben Yedder assured listeners that discussions are underway to reassess the pricing structure, taking into account both the municipality’s budget constraints and the expectations of residents.

This review comes amid growing demand for accessible celebration venues that reflect the country’s social realities, as many Tunisians struggle to afford festive events due to the rising cost of living.

A final decision regarding a possible price reduction or adjustment is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, pending the results of the ongoing study.

The Municipality of Tunis appears committed to promoting transparency and fairness in public access to festive facilities.
