The criminal chamber specializing in financial corruption cases at the Tunis Court of First Instance concluded, on Monday evening, after a hearing lasting nearly six hours, the closing arguments by lawyers in the case involving businessman Marouane Mabrouk and former ministers. The case is linked to proceedings over the lifting of the freeze imposed by the European Union on Marouane Mabrouk’s assets.
At the end of the hearing, the court decided to take the case under advisement ahead of the delivery of its verdict.
Marouane Mabrouk, Adel Garaa, former chief executive officer of Al Karama Holding, and businessman Mehdi Ben Gharbia appeared on Monday in custody before the criminal chamber specializing in financial corruption cases at the Tunis Court of First Instance, alongside several former ministers who remain at liberty.
Former head of government Youssef Chahed and Mabrouk Korchid, for their part, were referred in absentia as fugitives.
