According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the minimum threshold to reach collective immunity corresponds to the vaccination of 70% of the population. Statistical data similarly reveals that the cost of vaccines varies.
The cost of “BioNTech” and “Moderna” is 31 euros, “SINOVAC” is 23 euros. Sputnik V “is 17 euros,” Johnson & Johnson “costs 8 euros while ” AstraZeneca “is 6 euros. The normal price of the vaccine is therefore 19.3 euros or the equivalent of 64 dinars. From this same perspective, the latest statistics of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) of population and housing reports for the end of December 2020 the inhabitants of Tunisia are 11,708,370 (11.7 million). To this end and taking into record the WHO standards, the overall price of immunizing 70% of the Tunisian population which is 8,195,859 (8.2 million inhabitants) to achieve collective immunity is 527, 6 million dinars (MD) or almost 158.4 million euros.
On the other hand and separately of the problematic situation of public finances and the moderate budget of the ministry of health, the government contracted during the first four months, according to the bulletin of execution of the budget of the State, 4288.9 million dinars of funds spent for the most part in operating expenses … 12% of this amount would make it possible to vaccinate 70% of Tunisians to be within the collective immunity threshold and stop them from asking for international aid, which some consider as begging.
Statistics from the Ministry of Health issued on July 16, 2021, show that on the 125th day of the national vaccination campaign against, the total number of registrants on the “Evax.tn” platform is 3,421,089 (3, 4 million) while the number of people who have been vaccinated is 728,004 (two doses), or 8.8% of the total number of the population to be vaccinated according to WHO standards. At this rate, finishing the vaccination, in accordance with WHO rules, could take 1,282 days, that is to say, 3 and a half years, given there are enough vaccines for the population concerned.
