Prime minister Hichem Mechichi joined his Libyan counterpart Abdelhamid Dbeibah in an official press conference.
The Libyan PM inaugurated the conference with a speech in which he evoked the strength of the historic bonds of friendship that exist between the two nations. Referring to bilateral relationships, he especially welcomed the initiative of the Tunisian-Libyan Economic Forum which will take place in Tripoli from May 23 to 25 and will record the participation of 150 Tunisian companies of a thousand Tunisian businessmen.
“This event will be the first of its sort for many years and a chance for the two countries to advance their development through private partnership. Many cooperation issues anticipate bold and positive action from us, for this, we will continuously run to place into practice the deals signed, those that will be signed, and review what needs to be examined. There are exceptional files that we are operating to settle definitively together. Today we signed an agreement which intends to facilitate trade and the movement of civilians between our two countries “Abdelhamid Dbeibah pointed out.
“Tunisia has constantly stood by Libya’s side and we will stand by its side during this hard time of crisis. We will do whatever is needed to assist our brothers in Tunisia and you will see this in action, ”he added.
Mr Hichem Mechichi, for his part, reaffirmed the will of the two parties to do everything possible to free trade between the two nations and free the movement of people but additionally of capital and goods.
“The peoples are not waiting for the resolutions of the rulers and the exchanges between our two peoples, it is up to us to catch it at this time and to supervise it. Tunisia presents Libya with all its skills in many fields and this can only be profitable for both countries, we have seen a genuine desire to support our country during this economic crisis and this passes a strong message that reminds us that our destinies are linked, ”he declared.
Abdelhamid Dbeibah spoke again to state that Libya will very soon give medical aid to many hospitals in southern Tunisia and ensure to provide Tunisia with the required vaccines.
“Tunisian workers in Libya, who are currently in Tunisia will be reinstated and their contracts, as well as their certificates of residence, renovated” he announced.
