Tunisia-Abdellatif Mekki: Complete lockdown will return if cases spike

Minister of Health Abdellatif Mekki announced that the decrease in the number of COVID-19 infections prompted a decision to progressively resume economic life, without jeopardising health security.

However, Mekki ensured that in the event of a spike in infections, the general lockdown will be implemented again. During his intervention on Al Wataniya TV, he affirmed that during the targeted lockdown  1.5 million citizens will be permitted to return to work in a restricted and systematic manner.

Regarding protection methods in public transportation, Mekki declared that the whole fleet will be operational to transport citizens who are authorised to move, guaranteeing that there will be no jam.

In the same context, he clarified that controllers will be stationed in stations and that transportation will only be authorized for citizens with a travel authorization and wearing a protective mask.

Subsequently, Abdellatif Mekki said that Tunisia has not yet reached the peak of the pandemic, emphasising that the drop in the number of infection is demonstrated by citizens respect to the lockdown measures.
