Abdellatif Mekki said in a radio statement today that there are diverse reasons behind his departure from the Ennahdha Movement. He said Islamist party chair Rached Ghannouchi should have resigned and made way for another leader in order to confront what he called a “coup d’etat”.
Abdellatif Mekki said that the decisions adopted by Rached Ghannouchi within the party paved the way for the “coup”, specifying that after July 25, 2021 the latter was assumed to take a step back and assume his responsibility to find a way out of the current crisis. He likewise added that Rached Ghannouchi does not intend to resign from the Movement and is considering extending his term.
