According to a post published on the official Facebook page of the Tataouine governorate, the region’s governor, Amir Gabssi, received Karim Beguir, CEO of InstaDeep, a leading company in the field of artificial intelligence, on Thursday, 8 January 2026, at midday, in his office at the governorate headquarters. Beguir was accompanied by members of his team, in the presence of the head of the Department of General, Administrative and Financial Affairs.
The same source indicated that the meeting focused on the region’s investment potential and opportunities, particularly in advanced technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as on creating new employment prospects for young women and men in the region in these fields.
For his part, Karim Beguir expressed his appreciation to the regional authorities for the support he has received, especially in connection with his intention to carry out major investment projects worth several billion millimes. These projects are linked to artificial intelligence and modern technologies. On this occasion, he renewed his thanks to the governor of Tataouine for his efforts to ensure a favorable investment climate and for his commitment to job creation in the region.
In this context, the governor of Tataouine welcomed the investor’s willingness to contribute to the region’s development and to support its youth, affirming that regional authorities are working to remove obstacles and encourage promoters by supporting such initiatives in artificial intelligence, digital technologies and other related sectors. He stressed that these projects play an effective role in facilitating the integration of the workforce into the labor market, which now requires new skills, particularly in modern technologies, thereby opening up opportunities for local talent. He added that this approach is in line with the State’s future strategic choices, based on the adoption of modern digital technologies and artificial intelligence, in order to keep pace with rapid developments and align with advanced countries in these fields.
It is worth recalling that InstaDeep represents a true success story. The company was acquired by global biotechnology group BioNTech in a landmark transaction—the largest ever in the artificial intelligence sector in Africa—for a record amount of €408 million.
