The number of Algerian visitors entering Tunisia through the Sakiet Sidi Youssef and Kalaat Senan border crossings (Kef governorate) has grown by over 13% from the beginning of this year until the end of November, compared to the same period in 2024.
This was confirmed by Saber Maqri, Regional Delegate for Tourism, in a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse agency (TAP) this Monday.
Nearly 400,000 Algerian visitors in 11 months
According to the data provided, a total of 396,239 Algerian tourists were registered at the two border points during the current year:
220,391 visitors entered through Sakiet Sidi Youssef,
176,102 visitors through Kalaat Senan.
These figures highlight the significant role of Algerian tourism in the economic and tourist activity of the Kef region and Tunisia as a whole.
Toward a potential record of 500,000 visitors in 2025
The regional official expects a notable increase in December, driven by:
school holidays in both countries,
the New Year period, which traditionally sees a large influx of Algerian visitors to Tunisia.
He expressed hope that the total number of Algerian tourists could reach around 500,000 visitors by the end of the year.
Increased pressure at border crossings
Alongside this rise, the two border posts are currently experiencing intense commercial traffic, with trucks and private vehicles circulating in both directions.
This situation has created strong pressure on border procedures, forcing many travellers — Tunisians and Algerians alike — to wait several hours before crossing.
Citizens from both countries have called on authorities to provide structural solutions to ease congestion and reduce waiting times.
