Tunisia and Denmark Work to Expand Economic Exchange

The partnership between Tunisia and Denmark is making notable progress in key sectors such as clean energy, waste management, and local governance.

In 2023, Tunisia exported goods to Denmark valued at $14.2 million, while imports from Denmark totaled $57.3 million. Tunisia also ranks among the leading suppliers of dates to the Danish market.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and economic exchange, and in line with a proactive economic diplomacy agenda, Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, last week inaugurated the Tunisia-Denmark Economic Forum at the headquarters of the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Copenhagen.

The event was attended by a delegation of Tunisian business leaders representing the Confederation of Citizen Enterprises of Tunisia (CONECT), alongside a group of Danish entrepreneurs.

During his official visit to the Kingdom of Denmark, Minister Nafti emphasized that the organization of the forum reflects the shared determination of economic stakeholders in both countries to explore new partnership opportunities in strategic sectors such as clean energy and technology.

He expressed hope that economic cooperation would deepen and that trade volume would double over the next three years, according to a statement released by the ministry.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted three key sectors as potential pillars of a strong and sustainable Tunisia-Denmark partnership : the pharmaceutical industry, agricultural production technologies, and digital services. He also stated that Tunisia represents a natural gateway for Denmark to access African markets, thereby reinforcing its position as a regional hub for trade and investment.

In this context, he called on business leaders from both nations to leverage the forum as a platform to forge robust economic partnerships.

He reaffirmed the Tunisian government’s commitment to facilitating trade and creating an investment-friendly environment through the establishment of legislative frameworks that incentivize economic operators across various sectors.

According to the ministry, the forum featured bilateral meetings between Tunisian and Danish economic actors aimed at exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation and partnership across different sectors.

The implementation of the outcomes of these meetings will be monitored during the next Business Forum between Tunisia and Northern European countries, scheduled to take place in Tunis this coming October.

Scandinavian markets are among the most promising globally, thanks to the strength of their economies and their leadership in areas such as wind-powered electricity generation, renewable energy, green energy, and advanced technologies.

Companies in the region are also known for their strong profitability.

Tunisia aims to secure a foothold in Northern Europe, driven by its strategic objective to diversify export destinations, penetrate new markets, and further build international trust in Tunisian products.

Overall, according to data from the Export Promotion Center, trade between Tunisia and Scandinavian countries reached approximately 166.6 million dinars in the first quarter of 2025.
