The Arab League has decided to send a mission to partake in the observation of the presidential elections scheduled in Tunisia on October 6, according to a statement published Tuesday by the League.
According to the same source, the mission is composed of the deputy secretary general of the League, Hussein al-Hindawi, and 14 members of various nationalities of the member states.
The statement clarifies that the secretary general of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received an invitation from the president of the ISIE Farouk Bouaskar, to participate in the observation of the Tunisian presidential elections.
It added that the mission will hold meetings during the coming period with the different parties concerned by the elections, including ISIE, “to read the efforts made to organize this important electoral law”.
It also revealed that he would publish a preliminary declaration containing his first observations on the electoral process when the mission has finished the observation process and that will publish his final report later, which will be submitted to the Secretary General of the League of Arab states.
The press release indicates that the final report will include detailed observations of the Mission on the Electoral Process and “recommendations that could contribute to the development and improvement of future electoral elections”, stressing that he will be sent to the competent authorities in Tunisia.
