Olive oil exports increased by 45% by the end of June 2025, reaching 183,000 tons, compared to 126,000 tons in the first half of last year, according to the latest preliminary statistics published by the Ministry of Trade and Export Development.
Minister of Trade and Export Development Samir Obeid, overseeing an evaluation session of the olive oil export campaign at the ministry’s headquarters on Friday, stressed the need to improve the quality of olive oil and strengthen its competitiveness in order to preserve traditional export markets. According to a statement issued by his ministry, Mr. Obeid called for access to promising new destinations, such as Asian and African markets, by exploiting all untapped export opportunities, praising the role of all relevant organizations, including chambers of commerce and industry and trade representations, in this area. He emphasized that preparations for the next export campaign are underway, addressing all the challenges facing the sector and presenting concrete proposals through regular monitoring. He also stressed the importance of thoroughly preparing the next session of the Higher Export Council, which will provide an appropriate forum to discuss all issues related to this system and its strategic role in boosting the national economy. The Minister of Trade called for supporting domestic consumption of this product on the domestic market or accelerating exports to foreign markets. He highlighted the challenges faced by the system at all levels, from production to processing to marketing, and the need to overcome them to advance the sector.
