Tunisia-[Audio] A massive shortage of lifeguards and a marked increase in the number of drownings

In a statement to “Tunisie Numérique” Regional Director of the Civil Protection in Medinine Kamel Militi revealed that the massive shortage in the number of lifeguards is among the most significant reasons for the considerable number of drowning.

The region has recorded an increasing number of drowning since the beginning of summer .In an attempt to assist the efforts of civil protection agents in beaches.Mr.Militi announced that he would seek to ask local municipalities to open the door of recruitments for lifeguards.

According to him the governate of Medinine currently needs 86 Lifeguard. He added that the youth reluctance to work as lifeguards might go back to their preference to work in tourist establishments during the summer holidays, another determinant for this lack remains the fact that several students are still anticipating the result of the baccalaureate exams. Currently, only 9 lifeguards are active.
