The Court of Cassation has annulled the court of appeal ruling which declined his client release last week,said member of Nabil Karoui defence team and politician Imed Ben Halima In an official statement to “Tunisie Numérique” .
The court regarded the ruling to be an unjustified decision by the law hence invalidated the verdict and ordered Karoui release.Ben Halima added that the president of the party ” heart of Tunisia” is set to leave prison before midnight.
Karoui, a media mogul, was arrested on Aug. 23, following a complaint filed by I Watch organization in 2016 that charged him with money laundering, tax evasion and fraud.
He ranked second in the first round of the early presidential election held on Sept. 15, with 15.58 percent of the votes, after independent candidate Kais Saied, who gained 18.4 percent.
