Tunisia-[Audio]Mustapha Ben Ahmed expresses reservations on the details of the Minister of the Interior

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique,Tahya Tounes member Mustapha Ben Ahmed commented on the details of Interior Minister Taoufik Charfeddine on the arrest of Noureddine Bhiri.

The commenter voiced some reservations regarding Charfeddine’s statements. “The minister can say whatever he likes, but at the end of the day he is not qualified to decide some legal cases,” he said. Ben Ahmed recollected that the Minister of the Interior raised suspicions about giving certificates of nationality and passports to suspicious individuals.

According to him, the minister has not confirmed the connection between Noureddine Bhiri and this affair, which he says dates back to 2017. The politician added that Charfeddine should have shed more light on the issue, especially with regard to suspected terrorism. He again criticized Charfeddine’s intervention, stating that he released several pieces of information at once and left without permitting reporters to ask questions.

“The line is truly very thin between the protection of the national security of the State and the respect of the rights but in all the cases one must respect the law,” he said specifying that it is necessary to communicate to the public correct and concrete information.

As for Bhiri’s house arrest, Ben Ahmed revealed that the decision was taken in accordance with article 50 of the constitution. “This law was unfortunately employed in the era of Youssef Chahed” he declared, calling the law in question unconstitutional.
