Tunisia-August 13: LTDH calls for reform of the Personal Status Code

The Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights (LTDH) issued a  press release felicitating Tunisians on the 65th anniversary of the Personal Status Code (CSP) adopted in 1956.

The LTDH felt that the personal status code unquestionably granted Tunisian women many rights including the abolition of polygamy as well as other benefits related to divorce.

Nevertheless, this code does not ensure total equality between the two sexes, in contradiction with the constitution of 2014 and the international treaties ratified by Tunisia. It, consequently, called for this code to be reformed so as to eliminate all kinds of discrimination against women.
