Tunisia – Ayachi Zammel accumulates 31 years in prison… And it’s not over

Abdel Sattar Al-Massoudi, a member of the defence team for former presidential candidate Ayachi Zammel, confirmed that the Kairouan Court of First Instance had convicted his client to 5 years and 4 months in prison across three cases linked to falsified endorsements. Al-Massoudi added that the total judicial sentences issued against Zammel now amount to 31 years in prison, with an additional verdict expected next Thursday from a court in Manouba.

In a press statement, Al-Massoudi affirmed that Zammel is the victim of judicial injustice unrelated to the alleged endorsement falsifications. He claimed that Zammel’s freedom and family status were unfairly targeted. Al-Massoudi furthermore mentioned that Zammel’s three brothers have been sentenced in absentia to 1 year and 6 months each by the Kairouan Court of First Instance.
