Alaeddine al-Awadi, the official spokesperson for the Jendouba Court of First Instance, revealed today, Friday, September 6, 2024, that the research division and the Inspectorate of the National Guard in Ghardimaou have opened a judicial investigation. The probe targets the presidential candidate Ayachi Zammel and two people responsible for collecting endorsements, on suspicion of fraud related to the recommendation process.”
The same source clarifies that after research and given the results documented, it was decided to keep the candidate and to refer the other two before the Prosecutor’s office to the Jendouba First Instance Court.
Al-Awadi explained that by presenting the suspects today, Friday, September 6, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued against them. They were postponed to the criminal council for being prosecuted for having intentionally provided a testimony including False information, by deliberately using this testimony, and giving a fraudulent testimony and offering gifts in cash or in kind to influence the voter … with the transfer of personal data to third parties without the person’s authorization concerned. Chapter 199 of the penal code was applied to new chapters 158 and 161 of the law relating to elections and referendums, and chapter 90 of July 22, 2004, relating to personal data.
