Tunisia-Bakers do not want to apply the order of Minister of Commerce

The professional group of the bakery and pastry industry under the Confederation of Citizen Enterprises of Tunisia (CONECT) called on Wednesday, November 18, the prime minister to intervene to halt the reinforcement of the minister of Trade and Export Development decree relating to the production, exhibition and sale of bread.

CONECT reflects that this decree was declared without taking into account its potential economic and social consequences.

CONECT also alleges that this decree, once implemented, will prompt the closure of 1,300 bakeries and the loss of approximately 130,000 jobs and will also affect the supply of bread to citizens. It plans to organize regional and national demonstrations to demand its cancellation.

CONECT also notifies that its legal department is finalizing the necessary procedures to file a complaint with the Administrative Court to stop the application of this “unfair and hasty” order which will further widen the deficit of the compensation fund.

It points out, in this regard, that the Professional Group of the bakery and pastry industry does not benefit from the state subsidy granted to approved bakeries. It is organizing a protest movement in front of the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday 19th to demand the establishment of a legal framework governing the activity of bakeries.
