Tunisia – Beware of the trap of witch hunts, particularly against businessmen

It seems like we’re going to have to put up with them, again, for a long time, these individuals who have taken to social media, to call for a witch hunt. They look pretty simple-minded, if they think, sincerely, that the head of state or the judiciary has nothing better to do than to read their nonsense and follow their “orders”.

In fact, we can no longer navigate social networks without tripping across a range of posts whose authors believe they are the Robin Hoods of modern times, and which never stop to quote, name, or publish photos of people, urging Kaïs Saïed to prosecute them and subject them to the severest punishments.

The problem is, first, almost all of these complaints have no basis, and are frequently underpinned by personal grievances or a wish to settle scores. And, often, they target in a particular way, men of integrity, patriots and against whom no complaints have been accepted, despite the various accusations, and sometimes the long trials that have come to nothing.

Second, these calls are extremely dangerous. And those who are relaying them are, without knowing it, playing the game of the nation’s saboteurs. First of all, these calls give a bad picture of Tunisia after July 25, in particular, for the international opinion which will consider that Kaïs Saïed acted out of revenge and that he plans to blame everyone, in a totalitarian way and a good dictator, that he is far from being.

Later, the multiplication of these calls will end up irritating the entrepreneurs who are the target, who will end up believing in them and will become careful, and will not help investment in the country. The investment that continues, for Tunisia to be the only way out, to restart the machine.

All these unhealthy calls, which some are relaying, without pondering too much about it, will end up giving an international opinion the impression that it is actually a putsch and that Kaïs Saïed desires to get his hands on the country and its wealth … We understand, from then on, who must, surely, be behind this campaign. And it is, inevitably, those who are crying for the putsch, and the return of the dictatorship, and, among others, corrupt pseudo-businessmen and convicts, that they protect.
