President of the Republic, Kais Saied, chaired,Monday May 20, 2024, at Carthage Palace, a working session dedicated to the examination of the draft amendment to chapter 96 of the Penal Code.

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the state addressed the original text of this chapter, its modification in 1985 and the circumstances of this modification, before examining the modalities of application of said chapter in numerous cases.

He emphasised that it is the people who claim responsibility and that those responsible are held accountable.

The President of the Republic ordered the inclusion of a new provision relating to the criminalization of those who intentionally refrain from carrying out a matter related to their work to hinder the functioning of the public institution because many individuals rely on what is indicated in chapter 96 of the Penal Code to refrain from carrying out the functions entrusted to them.
