President Beji Caid Essebsi has passed away in the military hospital on Thursday at 10:25 local time, The presidency of the republic said in a statement.
The details of the funeral ceremony will be announced later, the statement announced.
Born in 1926, Essebsi was Tunisia fourth president. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1981 to 1986 and prime minster in 2011. Essebsi was the founder of the Nidaa Tounes. He was elected as president in December 2014.
