Tunisia – Bronchiolitis: Several hospitalized in children’s hospital

The chief of the emergency department of the Children’s Hospital Al-Bachir Hamza de Bab Saadoun, Zahra Fitouri, confirmed, in a press statement on Sunday, that infants contaminated by the bronchiolitis virus started to arrive at Bab Saadoun emergency service, and have been hospitalized since mid-September.

She added that this virus infects infants’ bronchioles, causing shortness of breath, emphasising that the aforementioned hospital emergency department receives about 250 emergency cases, most of which concern infants infected with bronchiolitis.

The emergency department’s head of the emergency service has called for the necessity to prevent infants infection by the bronchiolitis virus. She stressed the need to distance oneself, not to kiss infants and not to take them to crowded places, or smoke next to them, in addition to providing breastfeeding, which protects against viruses.
