Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, MP and Chairman of the Tourism Committee, Yassine Mami, confirmed that within the Finance Law of 2024, the new law for the FCR system was approved, which specifies that the enjoyment of this procedure for Tunisians living abroad be renewed every 10 years instead of enjoying it once in their lifetime. Mami clarified that this law will enter into effect in the next few days, following the issuance by the Ministry of Finance and the government of the regulatory orders linked to organizing this procedure and the conditions for using it. The Council of Ministers, which met yesterday evening, meditated on this law and set the related orders, which are anticipated to be released in the official gazette soon.
Mami stressed the significance of accelerating the implementation of this law as the summer season approaches and the return of citizens residing abroad draws near. This timing is necessary to facilitate the process and allow those eligible for the FCR procedure to have the proper time frame to bring in a car under the new system. Concerning the possibility of selling cars brought into Tunisia under the FCR system, the Chairman of the Tourism Committee mentioned that it will be possible to sell these cars, but the regulatory orders will specify the terms of this process. It will not be feasible to sell the car immediately after its entry; instead, a certain period must pass.
Mami underscored that this new system will be effective and motivating for citizens abroad, particularly given their important role in introducing hard currency into the country. Further, this measure is expected to contribute to putting downward pressure on car prices in the Tunisian market, as it increases the availability of vehicles.
