The Tunisian Ministry of Transport announced on Friday, July 4, 2025, a series of urgent measures to address the worsening situation at Tunisair, following several flight disruptions. These issues have caused significant delays and inconvenience for passengers, sparking strong public dissatisfaction.
The ministry emphasized that Tunisair is a national symbol for Tunisians, and that restoring its credibility is essential. The President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, has stressed the importance of countering anything that hinders public service and harms the rights of citizens.
Five immediate decisions announced
In response, the Ministry has taken the following actions:
Habib Mekki, State Representative on Tunisair’s Board of Directors for the Ministry of Transport, has been relieved of his duties, effectively ending his mandate as Chairman of the Board of Tunisair.
Tarak Bouazizi, a public service advisor, has been appointed as the new representative of the Ministry of Transport on the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors is instructed to elect a new Chairman as soon as possible to ensure the proper functioning of the company.
Issam Hammam, an aeronautical engineer, has been assigned to oversee the general management of Tunisair Technics, in addition to his current responsibilities.
A strict warning has been issued to station managers and Tunisair representatives abroad, reminding them of their duty to assist passengers in airports affected by disruptions and to provide accurate and timely information. The ministry noted that those who failed to fulfill their duties would be held accountable and replaced with more competent personnel.
Corruption cases under scrutiny
The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to monitor the progress of financial and administrative corruption cases that have contributed to Tunisair’s current state.
