Tunisia-Complex crisis in the country: UGTT dictates its conditions

In an address today to Tunisians on the occasion of Labor Day, UGTT Secretary-General Noureddine Taboubi emphasised the significance of national dialogue to solve all the problems confronting the country.  “There is no other option than to organize a dialogue to overcome the current crisis and dodge socio-political instability, by prioritizing the national interest. We backed the July 25 process, believing that it is the last chance to save the country’s democratic experience, preserve the accomplishments of our people and accelerate discussions on reforms with a view to setting the country on the route to development far away from any type of foreign interference,” adds Taboubi.

He, in the same context, voiced the attachment of the UGTT  to organize a national dialogue supervised by the President of the Republic Kais Saïed to deal with the political, financial, socio-economic, cultural and environmental crisis. “We likewise call for an end to the state of exception and the building of a new political regime as well as a new electoral law which takes into concern the specificity of our situation while relying on a participatory approach and this, with respect to full freedoms, socio-economic rights of Tunisians and the principle of the separation of powers”, he underlined, calling for the government and the armed forces to be kept out of political tussles. The general secretary of the UGTT also refused any form of foreign interference in local affairs.
