COVID-19 updates in Tunisia:

Infections are continuing to increase in Tunisia as Health authorities reported 1.564 new cases and 58 deaths, bringing the death and infection tally to 9.293 and 271.861 respectively.

Numbers of infection across the nation are being reported on a high scale, Information and Programme Officer at the local health directorate of Tozeur Foued Brani. on April 11, 2021, called the epidemiological situation was “worrisome” after recording 59 new infections out of 156 samples.

In the same context, ICU units are reaching maximum capacity with a high occupation rate; in Tataouine the situation has grown to be critical and terrifying with the nearly total occupation of all ICU and artificial respiration beds at Tataouine Regional Hospital.

The number of hospitalized in the COVID unit rose to 11 patients on 16 beds, including 4 in the ICU unit and 6 patients in the COVID-19 department in the local hospital in Ghomrassen as well as 2 out of 4 beds occupied at the local hospital in Remada.

On the level of measures, prime minister Hichem Mechichi announced that the previously imposed 7;00 pm curfew  will be advanced to 10:00 pm

Other measures will include the creation of a fund to raise donations for vulnerable groups touched by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking on the fringes of the periodic conference of governors at El Aouina barracks., the PM pointed out that one-third of a $300 million World Bank loan will be directed to supporting vulnerable groups affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On her part, Health ministry spokesperson Nissaf Ben Alaya said that mounting pressure in hospitals with a hospitalisation rate reaching 100% in some regions in the country.

Iyadh Elloumi resigns from Qalb Tounes

Qalb Tounes MP Iyadh Elloumi, announced this Sunday his resignation from the party. He alluded to a dispute with some party members.

Presidnet Kais Saied visit Egypt:

President of the republic Kais Saied embarked on a three-day visit to Egypt where he met his Egyptian counterparts and other personalities as well as visiting famous monuments in Cairo.

In a joint press conference with his Egypt president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the head of the state asserted Tunisia’s complete support for Egypt regarding the Renaissance Dam crisis.“We will never accept that the water security of Egypt is compromised,” he emphasised.

President Saied also met Egypt prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Speaker of the Arab Parliament Adel Abdurrahman Al-Asoumi as well as Grand Imam of al-Azhar Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb at Al-Azhar where he called for continuing to reinforce the principles of tolerance and moderation in our societies and to amend various received ideas that distort the actual image of Muslims, Islam and its tolerant values.

The head of the state visit also included a tour of Egypt most famous monuments including the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, the Amr ibn al-As Mosque and the Citadel of Saladin.He also visited al-Hussein” mosque and the souks of “Khan al-Khalili”.

He likewise met with members of the Tunisian community, during which he said that the political and constitutional situation is appalling and the country needs a real political will to get out of the crisis,”

Ramadan to begin on Tuesday in Tunisia

The Grand Mufti of Tunisia announced that the crescent for the month of Ramadan could not be seen on Sunday,  consequently, the holy month will begin on Tuesday, April 13.
