Tunisia-Death penalty, prison terms in Bizerte policeman murder, serviceman stabbing cases

The counter-terrorism criminal division issued verdicts Friday in the assassination of a policeman and a knife attack on a serviceman in Bizerte in 2019.

Sentences range from the death penalty to prison terms, the Tunis court of first instance press office said.

Policeman Faouzi Houimli was killed on September 23, 2019 outside the court of appeal in Bizerte. Serviceman Mohamed Bejaoui was also stabbed.

Four defendants were brought to trial. The first was given the death penalty, the second was sentenced to 7 years in prison and the third handed a four-year jail sentence, while the fourth defendant was acquitted of all charges.
