A fire broke out on Monday morning, around 6:00 am, in a double school bus, belonging to the regional transport company of Medenine, which was preparing to depart the Djerba Houmt Souk land transport station, according to the official spokesperson of the company, Chokri Al-Jaziri.
He specified in a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse Agency (TAP) that no human damage was registered due to the absence of passengers, and no damage was recorded on the buses parked nearby thanks to the rapid intervention of the company’s workers who quickly removed them, and thanks to the intervention of civil protection agents to extinguish the partial fire on the bus.
He estimated that the partial fire of the bus was due to a technical failure of the engine while waiting to determine the exact causes. He emphasised that the fleet is old and operates every day of the week, it is subject to continuous and intensive maintenance operations regularly. He added that beginning this year, a program will be enforced to renew the fleet.
It is noteworthy that the company’s fleet was reinforced at the beginning of this year with 5 new regular urban transport buses, part of the first batch as part of the company’s strategy to increase the readiness of its fleet, improve supply and ensure its travel in the best conditions of safety and quality.
