Mohamed Gazzouni, Director General of Human Resources at the Ministry of Education, reported that more than two million students and 350,000 teachers are currently registered across 6,160 educational establishments.
Concerning the shortage of educators, Gazzouni remarked that the Ministry addresses this issue each year based on its available resources. He disclosed that there are over 7,000 vacant positions in secondary education. To fill these vacancies, the Ministry has made considerable progress in adopting a contractual employment mechanism and has developed a digitized and transparent database to streamline the process.
Gazzouni stressed that all vacancies have been identified in advance, guaranteeing that no surprises will arise. The Ministry has put in place all required mechanisms to allow regional delegations to address these vacancies efficiently.
The total number of teachers in the country is estimated at 154,779 across both primary and secondary education, with approximately 7,000 assistant teachers set to fill the vacant positions, primarily in secondary education and a smaller number in primary education.
Additionally, Gazzouni commented that 1,600 construction workers will be integrated into the education system to support staff, administrators, and supervisors in the coming weeks (by the end of October or early November). This initiative is part of the third promotion of these workers, which he described as a significant achievement.
