Tunisia-Egg shortage: Ministry of Commerce intervenes

Remarking on the egg shortage registered more than a week ago, the Commerce Ministry said heavy pressure was recorded on the egg supply. The ministry reassured about the availability of a national stock permitting to cover the demands of the citizens and to ensure a regular supply of eggs on the market. “The market was provided with eggs during the first half of December. The ministry has, consequently, indicated that the packaged eggs will not surpass 15% of the existing quantity while setting the profit margin of the eggs of 10 millimes for the unit since December 21, 2021. The ministry will correspond with all parties concerned to overcome the egg shortage crisis and secure egg supply while regarding the purchasing power of citizens. The ministry thus intends to make efforts to ensure the stock for the month of Ramadan 2022.

It added that it coordinates daily with producers and industry professionals to distribute egg quantities in areas most impacted by the shortage while ordering economic control teams to supervise distribution operations Intensify control operations to fight against monopoly, speculation and rising prices.
