Tunisia: Electricity buys from Algeria and Libya covered 14% of local market needs at end of April

At the end of April 2024, total electricity production registered a decline of 3% to stand at 5,538 GWh (including renewable self-production) compared to 5,725 GWh at the end of April 2023.

Production planned for the local market also documented a slight drop of 2%. Note that electricity purchases from Algeria and Libya covered 14% of the needs of the local market at the end of April 2024.

STEG still keeps the lion’s share of electricity production with 96% of national production at the end of April 2024. Electricity produced from natural gas (STEG + IPP) recorded a decrease of 5%. Electricity production from renewable energies stood at 5.5%.

240 MW of photovoltaic roofs were established in the residential sector and 314 authorizations were granted for a total power of 112MW in the industrial, tertiary and agricultural sectors.
