Tunisia–EU partnership: €130 million boost and advanced equipment to secure borders

On the occasion of the delivery of new equipment aimed at strengthening Tunisia’s land and maritime border surveillance, a meeting was held today at the headquarters of the Tunisian National Guard in El Aouina. The event highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Border Management Programme (BMP), a long-term strategic partnership between Tunisia and the European Union.

Implemented in cooperation with the National Guard and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), the programme is backed by €130 million in EU funding, supporting border security, search and rescue operations, and the fight against human trafficking and smuggling networks.

Since its launch in 2018, the BMP has significantly enhanced the operational capacities of Tunisia’s National Guard and Coast Guard. This includes the provision of modern equipment worth over €21 million, the organization of more than 60 training sessions benefiting 550 officers and staff, and the procurement of thousands of technical assets to support field operations.
