Following the meteorological surveillance bulletin issued by the National Institute of Meteorology and in anticipation of heavy rainfalls in several governorates of the Republic of Tunisia, Civil Protection issued a warning statement on Thursday evening, prioritizing the safety of citizens and the protection of their property. The statement recommends the following:
- Stay away from riverbanks and flood-prone areas: Avoid approaching areas likely to experience strong water flows, particularly near valleys and hydraulic structures.
- Do not try to cross flooded valleys: Under no circumstances should you try to cross valleys, as this can lead to serious accidents.
- Move to higher and safer areas: Especially for those living in low-lying areas or mobile housing units such as tents.
- Check rainwater drainage systems: Ensure that the drainage channels around homes and shops are functional to prevent water accumulation or infiltration.
- Secure objects that could be carried away by strong winds: Such as billboards and signs to prevent injuries.
- Avoid touching electric poles: Stay away from electric poles during and after rainfall to prevent the risk of electrocution.
- Avoid parking cars under trees: It is recommended to avoid parking vehicles under trees during strong winds and storms, as branches or entire trees may fall, posing significant risks and causing severe damage.
- Stay updated on weather conditions: Follow weather updates through the media and adhere to the recommendations of the relevant authorities.
