Tunisia-Fakhfakh: Tunisia is at the heart of the storm today

In his address Thursday at the handover ceremony, outgoing Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh

warned against the disintegration of the state, plagued by corruption, corporatism, and narrow interests.
Tunisia is threatened by corporatism and by narrow interests, whether personal or regional. It is plagued by the corruption that has become so entangled in politics that we are told today that the corrupt state will survive, that it will dare, that it will challenge, “he blurted out.

And to add “After this short experience in power, I am now certain that the problems of the economy, development, poverty, unemployment, regional imbalance and marginalization cannot be solved, as long as we have not rationalized and moralized political life ”.

He also noted that the country has once again slipped into a spiral of instability and political tension as it passes through difficult social, economic and security times.

Fakhfakh returned to the circumstances that led to the fall of his government during his speech. To this end, he explained that after having brought the COVID 19 pandemic under control, his government set about putting in place from May an economic and social rescue plan and took charge of priority files with the same will, self-sacrifice and daring that prevailed in the management of the health crisis.

While we were busy implementing this plan to bring the country out of the crisis, others were plotting to bring down the government, denigrate it, he said.

If we take the result into account, we can admit that they did it. We have once again lost the historic opportunity to undertake the long-awaited and, ”he regretted.
Tunisia is now at the heart of the storm, he said. entangled in a vital and decisive battle, where the state, civil peace and the aspirations of young people are targeted.

Tunisia suffers from a glaring lack of confidence, frustration, and loss of hope. It fights to preserve its sovereignty and fights to rid its economy of the system of rent and omnipotent people ”.
Fakhfakh expressed his fears about the political scene where financial lobbies have invested in fragile democratic institutions, namely parliament, media, independent bodies, administration, parties and associations.

“They have turned the democratic dream into a danger hanging over the state and its achievements,” he warned.

According to him, what is scary in this political scene marked by “suspicious omnipotence”, “is the interference of foreign parties capable of influencing the national scene through instruments and individuals in their pay.”
An official handover ceremony between the outgoing government of Elyes Fakhfakh and the government of Hichem Mechichi took place on Thursday at Dar Dhiafa in Carthage.

The ceremony saw the presence of the presidents of the political parties represented at the Assembly of People’s Representatives, the presidents of national bodies and organizations, House speaker, Rached Ghannouchi, the vice-presidents of the parliament, the presidents of the parliamentary groups, the former heads of government as well as national personalities.
