Tunisia-Floods: Tunisians in suspense

For several days, prevention work has been launched in several cities across the country, especially those in threatened regions, aimed at decreasing the risk of flooding and infiltration.

A culture of risk is taking hold in the country. The bad memories after the Nabeul floods in 2018 are unforgettable. The fear of floods is likewise fueled by the tragedy of Derna in Libya.

In Tunisia, municipalities are frequently confronted with stream or ditch maintenance problems. This is why several of them have begun maintenance work for the evacuation of rainwater in the event of torrential rains. Nevertheless, these efforts could be confronted with the spread of uncontrolled construction on the banks of the wadis in several regions.

In Grand Tunis, maintenance work has been started in Carthage and Marsa. In the interior regions, in anticipation of possible floods and in order to decrease damage during floods, preventive measures have been launched in several governorates such as Bizerte, Béjà, Tataouine and Jendouba.
