Foreign Minister Othman Jerandi held a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in which both emphasised the significance of preparing as thoroughly as possible for the forthcoming bilateral events, the first of which is the political deliberation meeting. They maintained on the exchange of visits between senior officials of both nations .
The two ministers agreed on the necessity to give new impetus to bilateral relationships and explore new chances for partnership between the two countries. The meeting was likewise an opportunity to address the Libyan issue and examine regional and international issues.
The Egyptian FM said that his country will remain in great support of Tunisia and a privileged ally in all areas. For his part, Jerandi highlighted Egypt’s position in the Arab and international scene. The meeting gave an occasion to review the latest developments in Libya.
Both Ministers welcomed the appointment of an Interim Executive in this nation and asserted the wish to see the efforts made crowned by the organisation of elections before the conclusion of 2021, in accordance with the road map adopted at the Forum of Inter-Libyan Dialogue held in November 2020 in Tunis.
In this connection, the emphasis was laid on the role of neighbouring countries in increasing the political settlement process of the Libyan crisis. The two ministers asserted on the intensification of coordination and consultation within the framework of the Neighborhood Countries Mechanism, which brings together Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt.
The Palestinian question was further on the agenda of the meeting where it was, in particular, a question of defending this just cause in numerous regional and international authorities.
