Foreign investment in Tunisia witnessed a 73% growth in the 1st quarter of 2022, while they were down 18% in 2020 and 2% in 2019, according to statistics issued by the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA).
The foreign investment amounted to 596 million dinars (MD) late in March 2022, as opposed to 344.6 MD during the same date the previous year.
The foreign investment flow is spread at the rate of 592.7 MD (341.9 MD in the 1st quarter of 2021), in foreign direct investment (FDI) and 3.3 MD in portfolio investment (2.7 MD last year), the same source stated.
The sectoral distribution of FDI reveals a significant increase in investment value in the sector of services, reaching 271.7 MD at the end of March 2022, against 38.3 MD in 2021, up 610%.
During this period, the amounts fated for manufacturing industries reached 183 MD against 159.9 MD in 2021, posting an increase of 14.4%.
Nevertheless, FDI in the agricultural sector stay modest, not surpassing 300,000 dinars, until the end-March, as against 180,000 dinars a year earlier.
As for investment in the energy sector, they slipped by 4%, to 137.8 MD at the end of the first quarter of 2022 against 143.6 MD, during the same period last year.
