Spokesperson for the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES), Romdhane Ben Amor, confirmed that the immigration file has been marginalized since President of the republic Kais Saied took over the reins of power, stressing the absence of deep treatment of this file at the level of the conclusion of bilateral agreements with the European Union.
In a statement to Express FM, he added that the Tunisian state does not have a clear national strategy on irregular immigration and that Tunisia is dealing with this case in the light of European instructions.
He emphasised that the immigration project has become a primary concern affecting a large number of Tunisians, all categories and social classes included, remarking that irregular immigration is no longer justified by socio-economic reasons.
