Tunisia-Hakim Ben Hammouda : It is necessary to declare an economic emergency

Speaking to Shems FM, economist and former interim Finance Minister Hakim Ben Hammouda expressed that the economy has reached a degree of danger, which has shifted to a threat to national security, adding that it is needed to declare an economic state of emergency during which the state takes exceptional measures to overcome the unprecedented economic situation.

The same source pointed out that the economic situation today could harm the credibility of state institutions, adding that if the situation lasts as it is, it will influence the national economic decision and the national sovereignty, particularly at the level of absence of the capacity of state institutions to fulfil their obligations, such as resorting to debt scheduling, which may put Tunisia under the supervision of international financial institutions.

The spokesman emphasised that debt rescheduling.is a red line and that Tunisia must adhere to fulfilling its obligations.
