Tunisia-Haykel Mekki calls for suspension of 2014 constitution

MP Haykel Mekki said the events of July 25 brought hope to the Tunisian people.

The people today feel that they have recovered their nation and trust is being restored between citizens and the state, he told a radio.

He called for halting the 2014 constitution and putting in place texts provisionally organizing the public authorities until early elections are held. In the meantime, a referendum needs to be held so that the people can express themselves on the constitutional reforms that must be made or even the possibility of setting in place a new constitution, added Mekki.
