Tunisia-Hela Cheikhrouhou – A new Tunisian star lights up the skies of the World Bank

There are now two distinguished Tunisians, shining in the orbit of the World Bank. This institution, recognised for only appealing to the most competent, has just appealed to the Tunisian, Hela Cheikhrouhou, who has been designated as the new regional vice-president of the IFC, subsidiary of the BM Group, for the Middle East, Central Asia, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Before Cheikhrouhou, there was, of course, at the World Bank, our national Ferid Belhaj, the vice-president of the Bank for the Middle East and North Africa region, who was, recently, on a working visit, in Tunisia.

It should be known that the ranks, at this level, in the World Bank are not given, and the fact of having two Tunisians, at this level, is an enormous achievement for Tunisia.

As a reminder, Hela Cheikhrouhou was appointed, in 2016 as Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies. Born on May 11, 1972, in Tunis. She graduated from the Institut des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (IHEC) in Carthage and obtained a master’s degree in finance from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) in Montreal0

Hela Cheikhrouhou joined Banque Citibank-Tunis in 1996 as a trader, before leaving in 2003 as Vice-President Risks for the North Africa region. She then joined the World Bank (2003 to 2007) as a Financial Economist. In 2007, she was called to the African Development Bank (AfDB) as Head of the Energy, Environment and Climate Change Division, before joining the Green Climate Fund in 2013 where she headed the UN structure from Seoul.
