Tunisia- Highly charged atmosphere between UGTT and UTICA in Sfax

The UTICA Regional Office in Sfax viewed today October 25, 2021, in a press release that the UGTT  Regional Office in Sfax insisted on “tweeting outside the flock.”. According to UTICA, the union called for regional social negotiations in the private sector on requests that crosses the regional decision”.

These demands involve”The opening of social negotiations, the rise in salaries, and the activation of the increase in the value of the diploma.”

According to the text of its statement, UTICA declared to all private institutions, including customs, agents and the public, the following:

  • First: No regional party has the right to call for social negotiation because it is trusted only to the two central trade unions (UGTT and UTICA) at the Ministry of Social Affairs in accordance with the legislation in force.
  • Second: Accordingly, any halt of work to lobby for these demands is regarded as illegal and results in the application of the law in force to that effect.
  • Third: The menace of escalation cannot influence business people or restrict their resolution to move forward in the service of the national economy away from any narrow account.
  • Fourth: The union’s insistence on going on strike on October 28 falls under the category of transgressions of social peace, at a time when we urgently require a healthy environment that assists in surmounting the difficult economic situation due to the consequences of the Coronavirus pandemic, far from any other purpose covered by such actions. The biggest sufferer will be the national economy of institutions and sources of income.
  • Fifth: Insofar as it respects the right to legal strike, the UTICA regional office in Sfax adheres to its right to apply the law on the right to work in accordance with the Penal Code and the Labor Code (article 388 ), and calls on the authorities involved to assume their responsibilities in this area to secure the proper functioning of the institutions.
  • Sixth: UTICA holds UTICA accountable for anything that may result from any strike that is illegal under the applicable legislation, especially with regard to the payments of workers and employees and damage to institutions.
