Tunisia-In 2019, 18,770 Tunisians were diagnosed with cancer

Tunisia reported, during the year 2019, 18,770 new cases of cancer, split between 10,150 men and 8,620 women.

The head of the epidemiology service of the Saleh Aziz Institute, Mohamed Hassairi stated that the most common types of cancer in men are lung cancer first with 35.2%, followed by bladder cancer in the second position with 22.1%, prostate cancer in the third position with 19.5% and colon cancer with 14.6%.

For women, the most common types of cancer are breast cancer (74.9%), colon cancer (12.4%), rectal cancer (6%), cancer of the gland thyroid (5.4%) and finally cervical cancer with 3.1%.

Speaking to the TAP agency, in 2018 cancer was responsible for 16.1% of deaths in Tunisia. Faced with the increasing numbers of patients, hospitals are unfortunately unable to meet the treatment needs, he laments.
