Tunisia-INLUCC transmits case involving Bulgarian doctor accused of taking bribes for childbirth

The National Anti-Corruption Authority (INLUCC) has referred to the prosecutor of the first instance court of Gafsa for a case related to the suspicion of exploitation of a Bulgarian obstetrician at the local hospital of Oum Laarayès of the governorate of Gafsa of the public service and her function to carry out examinations patients in return for material benefits without being entitled to them.

 

The INLUCC said in its August 2020 weekly bulletin that the doctor is suspected of having requested a bribe for each delivery she performs inside the hospital, in the amount of300 dinar) for each cesarean section and180 dinars for each ordinary childbirth.

The aforementioned doctor said during the inspection that she does not force any woman to give her money in return for her supervision of the birthing operation, but on the other hand, she admitted that she does not refuse to accept “gifts”.

The Instance said it was informed that the aforementioned doctor had been referred to the National Council of the College of Physicians and the Law and Litigation Unit to take the necessary action against her.
