In Tunisia, the National Institute of Meteorology (INM) announced an orange alert for 10 governorates, ahead of dangerous weather disturbances expected on Wednesday evening and throughout Thursday.
In a bulletin published on its website, the INM said conditions will be marked by intermittent thunderstorms, sometimes bringing heavy rainfall, with localized hail, as well as strong to very strong winds that could occasionally exceed 100 km/h in gusts. In the south, these winds will be accompanied by sand and dust, reducing horizontal visibility.
The orange alert covers the Greater Tunis area (Tunis, La Manouba, Ariana, Ben Arous), as well as Nabeul, Bizerte, Béja, Jendouba, Le Kef and Siliana. This level corresponds to a high alert, calling for maximum vigilance due to the risk of hazardous weather phenomena.
Meanwhile, the Institute kept the remaining governorates under normal vigilance (yellow alert), meaning caution is still advised for weather-related activities.
The bulletin said it remains in effect until 5:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, and will be updated continuously as the situation develops.
