Tunisia- Is there a relationship between diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease? Dr. Reem Kafi explains

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, today, Thursday, February 15, 2024,  lecturer at the Pasteur Institute and head of a research team Dr. Reem Kafi said that many individuals do not know the association between diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. The physician pointed out that there are shared genes between the two illnesses.

In the same context, our speaker also underscored that the latest research revealed that 70 percent of diabetics are more susceptible to developing Alzheimer’s than other people who do not suffer from this disease.

She noted that all of these factors lead to the necessity to inform people in the age group between 55 and 75 years, as they are more vulnerable to contracting such diseases, by organizing awareness campaigns for early detection.
